    Whisky: the king of distillates

Friday, 04 July 2025 Irene Perico, Friday, 04 July 2025 (0 minutes read)

A market that reached $ 89 million in 2024: we are talking about the whiskey, the king of distillates that continues to fascinate and conquer the palates of the whole world, As shown by the figures compiled by Statista, which estimates global growth in the next five years of up to USD 104 billion (+18%).

In all this our country is no exception: according to Pambianco, in fact, if consumption is growing on a global scale - the export of Scottish whisky reached 5.6 billion pounds in 2023, -9.5% compared to 2022 but +14% compared to pre-2019pandemic (data Scotch Whisky Association) - Italy rises in the international rankings driven by new consumers and the market of the peninsula, according to projections Statista Market Insight, should grow further by 1.66% from now to 2028».

Attention to this noble distillate is constantly increasing, although it has long been considered a drink for only middle-aged gentlemen. This is confirmed by Antonio Beneforti, expert selector at Proposta Spirits, the spiritist division of the national distributor Proposta Vini: Whisky is making its way even among younger people, who are starting to explore this fascinating world. A trend that from Great Britain is making its way slowly in our country, where the path of affirmation will be a little slower. Also in the UK there is a trend that we are sure will arrive in our country, even if not immediately: an unexpected and important growth of women consumers. The great challenge of whisky in the coming years will be on the mixology front, a segment where in our country whiskey is far from the volumes of gin. The bet is called Whisky Highball (with ginger ale instead of tonic) that can represent a valid substitute for gin and tonic and become a real trend».

According to Beneforti, consumers, new and traditional, will be increasingly oriented towards the search for quality labels, such as those present in the catalog of Proposta Spirits from which we have selected 4 novelties.

Finvara Irish Whiskey The King's Gambit

Produced at the historic Dealgan Fort, on the Casteltown River in Ireland, using pure grain, malted and unmalted barley, this whisky is distilled three times and aged 4 years in a selection of Virgin Oak, former Barboun and Oloroso casks. Full-bodied and soft in texture, The King’s Gambit wraps the palate with sweet notes of caramel and vanilla, a touch of dark chocolate and hints of oak, all combined with aromas of dried fruit and a slightly spicy spice. A delicious blend with a medium-long finish that leaves a lingering sweetness on the palate.

    Murray McDavid Islay Finish

Made from the cask of one of the most famous peat whisky distilleries (whose name remains secret), Murray McDavid Islay Finish is a classic single malt whisky from the Speyside region of Scotland: fine and elegant at the start, stands out, thanks to its aging in Islay barrels, for smoky notes, with delicate hints of ripe fruit and a dry and fresh finish.

Terence Hill The Hero Rauching Mild Blended Malt

Produced in Germany by St. Kilian, one of the best-selling whisky distilleries, Terence Hill The Hero Rauching Mild Blended Malt is an easy and pleasant smoky whisky whose final ageing takes place in barrels of former Jamaican rum. The result is a whisky that on the nose reveals aromas of wood combined with sweet molasses, Barboun vanilla, caramel cream, peach as well as a hint of marzipan in the background. The taste is intense, with a finish that opens with caramel and vanilla to finish with spicy oak and a touch of cocoa, while the subtle smoky notes persist for a long time.

    Whisky Cognac Cask CGNC 9920-5

The flagship of the French distillery Fontagard, this single malt whisky, produced with local barley, stands out for its elegant complexity. The nose is immediately affected by pronounced fruity aromas, starting from melon and ripe peach, followed by a subtle vanilla note in the background and hints of raisins and sweet chocolate, which then leave spaces with strong aromas of spices. The taste is sweet and sugary at first, soft and honeyed, while after a few seconds emerge a slight bitterness and a hint of licorice that soon give way to a soft and woody finish.
