A holiday whose roots go back into Mexican history and which commemorates the Mexican army's victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on 5 May 1862. Although it is not a national holiday in Mexico, it is celebrated with enthusiasm especially in the state of Puebla. In the United States, it has become an important occasion to pay homage to Mexican culture and traditions.
Over the years, it has become a real holiday, filled with music, typical dishes and drinks, and celebrations of all kinds. Themed events and evenings in bars and restaurants are common.
A very characteristic aspect of this festivity is the consumption of traditional drinks such as tequila and mezcal, symbols par excellence of Mexican pride. Whether it is a chilled margarita or a shot of mezcal, the toast is an integral part of the celebration.
Although often confused, tequila and mezcal are two different spirits: tequila is made exclusively from blue agave and follows a more industrial distillation process, while mezcal can be made from different varieties of agave and is often processed in a more artisanal way, giving it its characteristic smoky flavour.
Our producers of Agave Spirits include MarcaNegra, Mezcal Yulia, Meteoro, Buen Vato, Enemigo Tequila and Tequila Clandestina.
Happy celebrations and... cheers!
